From a trial balance to statements that tie

This page shows how the skill turns a trial balance into five financial statements, one level at a time. It starts with 21 account balances. It ends with seven tie-outs, each with its difference, and a package that the owner can send to a bank. The page quotes every rule from the skill and works every number in front of you.

The rules are the skill's ownThe page quotes each rule word for word, with the file and section it comes from.
Outside sources back the factsThey are two IFRS Foundation pages on IAS 1, an SEC guide, two OpenStax textbook sections, an AICPA & CIMA guide and an SBA checklist. Each one has a number and a link.

Your numbers, your checkAt the end, enter the totals from your own statements. The page runs the seven tie-outs and splits a loan into its current and non-current parts.

How it thinks

Twelve rules the whole skill runs on

Every level below applies one or more of these rules. The examples use one made-up company, Northbrook Trading. It is a wholesale trading company with share capital, and it reports in US dollars under IFRS. The year ends on Tuesday 30 June 2026, and the skill runs on Wednesday 15 July 2026. All figures are in thousands of US dollars ($000).

Put in your own statements

Enter the totals from your own statements, all in one unit, or load an example. Part 1 runs the seven tie-outs from Step 8 of references/method.md. Part 2 splits a loan into its current and non-current parts. The page sends nothing anywhere.

Part 1: Do my statements tie?

Balance sheet
Income statement and cash flows
Equity and comprehensive income
Prior year (optional) and currency

Each difference is the first figure minus the second. The page treats a difference under 0.005 as zero. Tie-out 6 compares one line here, but the skill compares every line by hand. If you leave the prior-year figures blank, tie-out 6 shows [manual], which is not a pass. The Northbrook preset gives a difference of 0 on all seven tie-outs, with tie-out 6 marked [manual].

Part 2: Split the loan

The loan
The rest of the balance sheet

The current portion comes from the amortization schedule, never from the ledger. The ratio of current assets to current liabilities is an illustration on this page. The skill computes no ratios. The Northbrook preset gives a current portion of 40 and a non-current portion of 80. Current liabilities go from 104 to 144, and the ratio goes from 3.40 to 2.46.

Using it

What it asks, needs and gives back

Asks firstA: use Mosofin for this run, or upload the data yourself? B: which framework (US GAAP, IFRS, a local GAAP or a special-purpose basis), and what legal form? C: which period, and which columns? D: for a group, consolidated or separate statements? E: please give the prior-year statements as issued. F: how do you set the current portion of debt and leases? G: whole units, thousands or millions? H: income statement by function or by nature? I: anything special, such as discontinued operations, segments, another presentation currency or EPS?
NeedsThe skill needs the trial balance at the current period end, with account types. It also needs the trial balance at each comparative period end, on the same basis. For cash flows and equity, it needs the balance sheet at the start of the period. It needs the GL for the fixed asset, loan and equity accounts as well. You give the schedules and the prior-year statements.
Gives backThe skill gives back five statements with comparatives, all seven tie-outs with their differences, the reclassifications and a coverage sheet. These fill a workpaper of up to nine sheets. It asks before it makes the Excel file or a PDF.
NeverThe skill never reads your data before you answer its questions and say yes to its read-back. It never writes to any system. It never defaults a framework, a split, a rounding basis or a share count. It never adds entity packages together, and it writes no notes.
Sources

Where every fact on this page comes from

The rules are the skill's own. The facts below come from seven outside sources. They are two IFRS Foundation pages on IAS 1, an SEC guide, two OpenStax textbook sections, an AICPA & CIMA guide and an SBA checklist. MosoFin checked each one on 28 October 2026 from search results and did not open the pages. Follow the link for today's wording.

Not backed by an outside authority. The seven tie-outs, the nine sheets, the [auto], [gated] and [manual] verdicts, the footer contents and the mapping rule are the skill's own. MosoFin made up Northbrook Trading and every figure in the examples. The examples use IFRS because the skill's own read-back uses IFRS. A US company may choose US GAAP, and the skill asks for the framework at intake B. This page cites no US GAAP source. The current ratio on Level 2 is an illustration on this page, and the skill does not compute it.
