From one clean match to the items a person must review

This page shows how the skill suggests an account for each transaction, one level at a time. It starts with one vendor and a clear history. It ends with the request to post that the skill refuses. The page quotes every rule from the skill and works every number in front of you.

The rules are the skill's ownThe page quotes each rule word for word, with the file and section it comes from.
Outside sources back the factsThey are two sections of an OpenStax textbook and three IRS pages. Each one has a number and a link.
The page shows the mathOpen "Check it yourself" on any level. Follow every line on a calculator.
Your numbers, your checkAt the end, enter one transaction of your own. The page gives the history shape, the confidence band and the flags.

How it thinks

Ten rules the whole skill runs on

Every level below applies one or more of these rules. The examples use one made-up company, Northbrook Trading, a US company that keeps its books in US dollars. On Monday 5 October 2026, the owner asks the skill to code September 2026. The skill finds 38 transactions in 8999 Uncategorized Expense. The owner also uploads one bank statement file with one more item.

Learning path

Six levels, from simple to complex

Check it yourself

Put in one transaction of your own

Enter one transaction and the history of its vendor, or load an example. Part 1 runs the Tier 1 history test and the Step 4 checks from references/method.md. Part 2 builds the summary. The page sends nothing anywhere.

Part 1: Check one transaction

The transaction
The history and your rule
What else is true

The page calls a history consistent only when one account has every earlier payment. The skill says "one account dominates", so it can call a history with one exception consistent too. The page marks an amount as unusual at or above the threshold, or at 10 times the vendor median or more. The 10 times measure is this page's choice. The skill asks only that the run state the measure that it uses. The page treats every amount at or above the threshold as equipment. The skill applies the capital expenditure test to equipment, computers, furniture and vehicles. Any Step 4 flag limits the band to Medium.

Part 2: The summary

Rows in each band
How the page rounds

The page rounds each percentage to one decimal place. So the three percentages can add to 99.9% or 100.1%.

Using it

What it asks, needs and gives back

Asks firstUse MosoFin for this run, or upload the data yourself? Which transactions do you want coded, or must the skill find them? Which company are they for? Do you want tax codes, and if yes, for which country and with which codes? Above what amount do you record a purchase as an asset? Do you have house rules that override past practice? What are the names of the owners, their family members on the books and their other businesses?
NeedsWith MosoFin, the skill reads the chart of accounts, the vendors and the coding history. It also reads the uncategorized and suspense accounts, the tax codes, and the bank and card accounts. On the upload path, it needs the transactions and the chart of accounts. Statement files bring in the bank-feed items that are not in the ledger.
Gives backThe skill gives back a coded list with Evidence and Verdict columns, a summary and a header block. For an Excel file, it adds two sheets: Uncoded Population and Coverage. It asks before it makes the file.
NeverThe skill never reads your data before you answer its questions and say yes to its read-back. It never writes to your books and never invents an account. It never picks a threshold or a tax treatment. It never concludes that an item is personal or related-party.

Where every fact on this page comes from

The rules are the skill's own. The facts below come from five outside sources. They are two sections of an OpenStax textbook and three IRS pages. MosoFin checked each one on 28 October 2026 from search results and did not open the pages. Follow the link for today's wording.

Not backed by an outside authority. The five tiers, the confidence bands, the flags and the 3-day transfer window are the skill's own. So are the downgrade for test data, the Evidence and Verdict columns and the three sheets. MosoFin made up Northbrook Trading, its vendors and every figure in the examples. The page marks them where they appear.
